I am trying to find the best solution for a website using Paypal Subscriptions. Here are the requirements so far:

  • basic website - available to all paid subscribers
  • add-on 1 - available to users/roles who have paid for this option
  • add-on 2 - available to users/roles who have paid for this option
  • whenever a subscription is about to run out, users are emailed with a link to resubscribe
  • users are blocked from site or add-on (with a link to resubscribe) when they have not paid
  • uses paypal subscriptions to pay monthly, quarterly or yearly

I have read Scott McCulloch's 2 articles on subscriptions and I'm leaning towards his "Subscription Tools."

I'm also looking at dnnsoft's CataLook.net and Inventua PayPal Module.

Could I please get opinions on these products and the best way to proceed.

thanks
Nick

Even though I have not used the Ventrian subscription products, given my experience with other Ventrian modules, I have to say that I would go that route....

Scott's stuff works perfect!

The Ventrain or Catalook modules probably integrate better into the process you are looking for.  My understanding of the Inventua PayPal module is that it would require additional coding/modules to link it up with the roles.

The Catalook module(s) would probably be a bit over the top if this is the only e-commerce facility you will have on the site.

I'm also using Subscription Tools and it does provide the options you want.

Thanks, I've decided to go with the Scott's Subscription Tools.

I have one question about Roles. As I understand it,  a user in Role A will not be able to see web pages that are assigned to Role B. Does the same hold true for the menu? Are menu items that belong to Role B hidden from users in Role A?

Thanks,

Nick
