Hello,

Being relatively new finding my way around DNN (4.8.4) and having viewed some introductory tutorials which emphasize how easy it is to build a page, I do not see a way to build content into the site without lots of repetitive page layout activity each time i simply want to publish a new page of content.

Is the following scenario possible ?

I want to grant publish access to the site to a proficient copywriter who has no web skills, he will be tasked with writing and publishing a news article each day which should appear on the site as a fresh page, complete with new url.

The copywriter cannot waste time in layout or navigation issues - he just needs to go paste in his finished copy and the system take over to generate the new page. The page should be generated complete with Navigation, Menus, Header and Footer blocks already in place.

Although DNN is billed as having content management (correct me if i am wrong please) I dont find this capability. Does anyone have any tips as to how to approach this ?

Thankyou

John

The navigation, menus, header and footer blocks would all be part of the skin so each new page would have them.

I would suggest that you take a look at a third party module to do what you are looking for here however. Don't think of it as a new page, but a new "entry". Each entry would have a unique url.

Look at the "News Articles" module here http://www.ventrian.com. Package that module with metaPost fro http://www.itcrossing.com and you have a very powerful publishing package for someone who has "no web skills".

Ventrian's News Articles module and Enage's Publish modules will both let you publish a collection or articles.  Both feature some workflow tools, primarily related to approval.  I've used both and like both.

Engage Publish is a lot more flexible and comes with a somewhat larger pricetag.

Thanks guys,

It would be a pity to have to go buy another module for such a basic requirement.

Up till now we have been using the 'copy page' function to get a standard page layout that we can use repetitively, is that the only recommended way you can publish with the standard DNN modules ?

Can anyone comment on the use of Templates, would this be a convenient way to set up and regularly publish articles in a standard format ?

Thankyou

John

Take a look on Repository module. With customized articles template you can achieve your requirements.
