Okay so here is my situation

Dotnetnuke is installed in C:\DotNetNuke folder of my computer.

IIS is configured to open it thus http://localhost/DotNetNuke opens up the site which means installation is complete.

I don't know the admin password or host password as I didnt install it and thus do not know how to proceed to create modules within this location.

My problem is I want to create some modules which depend on a database of a different server.

a) Can I create a website based on dotnetnuke platform at some x location of my computer as the template is available in Visual Studio 2005.

If yes how do I do that, what I mean is what all do I have to configure like IIS Server and all?

Cause if I can then I can create my modules within this website ?

I am using Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2000

Please help me I am going mad trying to figure out how do I do this.....................

Hi,

On the DNN site, where you downloaded the install package is another download for the documentation.  You may want to read the install doc and the two 'module development' docs.

I think that by default, the default portal homepage should show you the admin and host users and passwords.  If they are missing or wrong, I think you can run the installer again.  I think the installer lives in a directory like http://www.yourdomain.com/install/default.aspx, or something.  The install docs should explain it all to you.

You may even want to uninstall DNN and install it yourself, as then you get to see all the steps and values used during the install.

Good Luck,

Lanceo

Hi,

I read the module documentation Part 1 but I don't understand why didn't he use the module template  which comes with the dotnetnuke framework

to create the module in his survey example.

Also is it possible for me to install a new version of dnn on some other location of my system. Do all the settings with SQL Server 2000 like create a new database as well as create a new virtual directory in IIS while letting this old version to remain in its path.

Do u think it will create some kind of conflict.

Thanks for all the help.

I haven't looked at the documentation in a while but there's a good chance the template wasn't available when the documentation was done.

You can have as many installs of DNN on your system as you want as long as you make sure you do as you mentioned (create a new database/virdir in IIS). On my development system I quite often have 4 or 5 separate installs of different versions.

Hi,

Okay so I have unzipped the DNN Framework to this location C:\Website\DotNetNuke

Now when I go to C:\Website and rt+Click and say Properties\Security and try to add ASP.NET Machine USer

it doesn't let me.

I have the previous version at this location C:\DotNetNuke and the ASP.NET Machine Account has permissions on it.

Should I remove the  permissions from this account and then add it to my new location.
