Hi guys,

Could you please tell me if  with DotNetNuke it is possible to do the following website + if it is simpler than using visual web developer express:

A website where users can register and have their account. Once registered they can perform search, ie general idea is about knowledge exchange, for example I am good at maths but bad at English, so I search for someone offering English and I offer maths. One way search, without any offering is also possible.

Additionally, in every user account there will be a chat room, possiblity to upload one's picture and every registered user should be able to open a kind of tematic room password protected, for example a room for students of Medicine year 2 University of Mars, where they can view the exam calendar, upload notes and share info....

...That's it. I have started with Visual Web developer but it goes quite slowly...I am just a begginer with no IT background.

Please help, could you  write about the pro's and con's of using DotNetNuke in my case. I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Dominika

What you are looking for is not a default in DNN, but there are profile modules and chat modules available that could make this very simple.  Check www.snowcovered.com or the Marketplace (Link in top menu) for modules that may suit your needs.

In regards to  your comments about is it faster than doing it with VWD only, I would say most likely.

Out of the box DotNetNuke is going to have the user account management information and other items, then with third party modules you can implement many other features without any development effort.

You can then focus on only building the "unique" items that you need for your site.

Thanks for the reply... Could you tell me what type of DNN I should install - source or install - to build my website. Consider also that I am using VWD Express and SQL Management Studio Express. Are these ok?

And last - do you know any step be step on how to Install it on Vista?

Thank you again for help,

Dominika
