I often hear people say things like - DNN uses the database too much, DNN is slow for a big site.  Rarely is there any actual evidence - it's all based on blind prejudice.

I'd like to know what hardware this site runs on.  Then I'd have an existence argument giving a ballpark on how much hardware you need to run a site with half a million plus registered users.  Yes - I know there is no real evidence of how much the users do on the site, although the front page does give a clue about how many users are currenly using the site.

DotNetNuke.com has run for a long time on a single web server with a dedicated SQL server behind. Now it moved to a web farm with 2 web servers. There are other large DNN sites running on web farms such as the Australian NFL

Sebastian - Thanks very much for the information.

Do you know anything about the specificatyion for these machines?  Are they monster machines, or babies?

sorry, they reside on a different continent, therefore I haven't got a chance to see them live yet. But AFAIK they are typical web server machines, I assume "upper middle class".

We have not moved DotNetNuke.com into the farm yet.  That will happen with the upcoming release.

We currently run on a single dual Zeon (2.4 Ghz) box with 2Gb of memory.  We have a separate database server with SQL Server 2005 - quad pentium at 1.4 Ghz with 4Gb memory.  None of our machines are cutting edge by any stretch.
