Hi:

I need some clarification on folder security in DNN.  I create a folder in DNN using DNN's file manager.  I then specified that read access to the folder should be restricted to "registered" users.  Finally, I created a PUBLIC file link to a file that folder by placing the link on a public DNN page visible to all.  I was expecting that the user would be redirected to the login screen when they clicked that link but it looks like anyone can read the contents of the folder even though I restricted it to "registered" users.

What am I missing?

Thanks in advance for any help / clarification.

if you want to protect files within folders from being downloaded via URL, you need to specify this as a "secure folder (file system) during folder creation.

Hi Mitch:

Thanks.  I had read that article before posting the question.  I think I have figured out the issue.  DNN only likes secured folders that are created directly beneath the Portal Root.  Secured folders created beneath other folders are not treated as secured.  I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature but that just seems to be the way things work.

Thanks very much everyone for the suggestions and ideas.  I think we can mark this question closed!

Have a good day.
