I tried the fix provided and it didn't do anything for me. After looking at all the examples in App_Browsers - I created a file with the content below (which should cover my particular issue with the Pingdon spider) and it had no affect at all. Even after restarting the DNN app..

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<browsers>
   <!--
    sample text: "Pingdom.com_bot_version_1.4_(http://www.pingdom.com/)"
     -->
   <browser id="Pingdom" parentID="PageLoadException">
      <identification>
         <userAgent match="Pingdom.com" />
      </identification>
      <capture></capture>
      <capabilities>
         <capability name="crawler" value="true" />
         <capability name="browser" value="Pingdom" />
         <capability name="version" value="0.0" />
         <capability name="majorversion" value="0" />
         <capability name="minorversion" value="0" />
         <capability name="isMobileDevice" value="false" />
      </capabilities>
   </browser>
</browsers>

I just upgraded from 4.9.5 to 5.1.4 and this issue seems to have gone away!

Is there any patch or workaround for this issue for DNN 4.9.5???

I was wrong about this being fixed in 5.1.4 ... it just seems to be less frequent - but its still there.

To keep the db small I only keep the last 25 Page Load Exception errors ... so I cant say if the upgrade cured some spiders and not others.

The only one that seem to affect me now is whois.domaintools.com
