Hi everyone.  I've noticed that a Catalook store with 50 products performs better than a store with 5000 products, especially when using the admin modules and adding or editing products, but can anyone explain the relationship between number of products and performance a bit better?
Is it a linear relationship, that is, a 5000 product store performs 100 times slower than a 50 product store in pages that do not have any cache?

Hello Joao.  Use SQL Server Profiler and trace the operation on the database while imposing an operation that has become increasingly long to complete.  Take the query you find is taking the longest to complete.  Optimize the indexes necessary.  Unsure of this solution, but I've come across solutions where indexes where not even built.  That will definately slow things down.  Oh, and pray for some good architecture.  ha ha.  That is usually discovered in hindsight.  Hope this helps.  ~ Adam  (http://vorba.com)

Joao,

You might do better to post this over on Catalooks support site, as they know there product very well.  In fact, Susanne and her team might even be able to give you tips on how to improve the performance.   http://www.dnnsoft.com/SupportbrnbspnbspnbspnbspService/Forum/tabid/75/Default.aspx
