Are there any publicly available performance test results available for DNN?

There never could be.  Way too much in terms of performance of any web application depends on specific settings and hardware, as well as additional load on the server.  What works to help performance for one site may hurt another.  Best you can do is benchamrk your site, make a change and benchmark again.  You'll get it tuned eventually.  Look into products such as Snapsis Page Blaster.  Read the blogs and posts on tuning the caching.  Look at the IIS Resource Kit for tips on tuning your web server and application pools.  Check SQL resources for tuning SQL.  And remember, every change you make can impact many areas of performance.
