Just so I don't post twice, is this forum linked/related to http://forums.asp.net/90/ShowForum.aspx ? That is www.asp.net forums. I notice they've got a dotNETNuke forums there too, and I think I saw posts there as they are here.

Well, anyway, I am wondering whether dotNetNuke is related to PHPNuke/CPGNuke?

I am a former PHP programmer who loved using PHP/CPGNuke:

http://www.phpnuke.org/
http://www.cpgnuke.com/

You are happy to know that I want to migrate to ASP.NET now. I have had a look at the PHP-to-ASP.NET migration assistant. I tried it. I got 1400 errors when trying to convert CPGNuke 9.0.

Then I found out about these ASP.NET Starter Packs. Fantastic! And I came across dotNetNuke and the name ring-a-bell/sounded familer.

Does dotNetNuke have:

1. collapsable side-columns (collapsable vertically & horizontally), like CPGNuke's (take a look at: http://www.dragonflycms.no/ which looks so damn cool)

2. changable styles/themes/look'n'feel? http://www.dragonflycms.no/ is a great example, and there's tones more at: http://www.cpgnuke.com/Downloads.html

So is dotNetNuke as good as CPGNuke???

DotNetNuke is moving its forums from ASP.Net to this site.

In addition to the anwer over there:

1. you can develop a skin object, that cares about collapse of columns.

2. it is up to you, how you want to style your portal. The skinning mechanism is very flexible, though skins are easy to create. There are many free and commercial skins around.

Kevin ~

Always fun to hear from a PHP convert... especially to have thoughts & questions from folks used to CMS applications on those other platforms.  I'm sure you'll have plenty of questions, and we can start answering some of them for you here.

Looking at the site you mentioned, I guess you are talking about what we refer to as Minimize/Maximize for the modules.  Yes, this is baked into the framework and is implemented in containers, which are the visual "wrapper" for modules ( which provide function ).  You can turn them off/on and set their initial state to open/closed in the settings for any given module.  If you are talking about collapsing the "zones" of content, most skin designers create their skins ( what you would call themes ) such that any zone ( we call them "Panes" ) collapses or hides itself if there is nothing in it.

When you talk about skins ( themes ) the sky is the limit.  There is a quick guidedtour here: www.dotnetnuke.com/guidedtour and you can see right on the front page some different kinds of looks that have been implemented with DotNetNuke.

Cheers
