Hi,

It's now 22 days to OpenForce '08 Europe. :-)

Based on my experience from attending last years very informative event, I'm looking at attending this year as well and catching up will fellow users..

Now, last years scope of sessions was around existing versions of DNN and provided some indepth coverage of the framework that is in existence that I could understand and implement immediately on my return home.

This year there are numerous sessions which cover DNN 5.0 and I presently have no experience with DNN 5.0.

So my question is: Will there be some public release that I can get my hands on before Openforce Europe so I can evaluate it to some extent?

For me the value in attending the event comes from being "involved" in the sessions, i.e. being able to understand the jist of what is being presented and to ask good questions based on my own experience were necessary.

Remember, DNN itself has been building the hype around the forthcoming advancements in DNN 5.0 since Openforce '07.  Although delivery has slipped (and probably with valid reasons) it needs to deliver for OpenForce 08 in some form.

I appeciate that DNN 5.0 is the next evolutionary step and I am happy to work with existing versions as they are very productive for me. Not having DNN 5.0 is not going to kill me. :-)

So I hope you can appreciate where I am coming from when attending the event is an investment in time and finance.

Unless I've had some time to investigate DNN 5.0 before the event I will choose not to attend. It doesn't make sense to me to. I will happily work away with 4.9.

This is simply matching up DNN Corp's timeline with my own.  Life Happens. (*Smile*)

Please feel free to share your opinions.

Cheers,

Colin

Now that 4.9 is out, we're due another internal beta - at this point I believe it's of sufficent quality to be designated a release candidate. Historically it's only taken one or two release candidates to get promoted to a final release, so with openforce being so close I'm sure well be pushing for that. Trust me, this is not deliberate, ideally we would have had 5.0 out a few months ago, but due to a number of reasons (six 4.x releases plus a lot more betas of 5.0 than we'd anticipated), it's not happened.

Please note, 4.9 contains a few "cambrian" pieces- a number of items such as the new entropy skin, the new Text skin object, the updated Search skin object and the new Styles skin object.
