I'm really (really really) keen to get any information I can on workflow/content approval features that might be in Cambrian/DNN 5

Happy to wait for the Cambrian release to actually get to try it out, but it would be very useful for professional DNN services providers if a factsheet with proposed major enhancements and a short description of each could be released so we can help our clients with their planning processes for their sites (eg - 'wait a few months and we'll be able to do more with x y or z without spending lots of $$$'s on custom development now')

Failing that, I'll take any gossip, snippets of info or short statements about workflow that might be on offer! Please, can anyone enlighten me?

Hi Anna,

Unfortunately even though workflow is on the roadmap for 5.0, the core team is not including that feature in the 5.0 release.  :(  5.0 is basically a giant bugfix version with a few minor (but very much needed) enhancements such as the ability to set DENY permissions and edit the admin/host menu items.

Tony,

please refrain from the consistent and incorrect posts on 5.0. It is not "a giant bugfix", you can view it's contents @ http://support.dotnetnuke.com/project/RoadMap.aspx?PROJID=2 , it contains a large amounts of enhancements and refactoring (Charles blogs about some of this @ http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/BlogID/15/Default.aspx ). Much of work of 5.0 is putting the new architecture in place so that later releases which focus on areas such as workflow, social networking etc. can build on it. Shaun has a long blog post @ http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryID/1773/Default.aspx that gives good detail on this.

Having sat beside you during a number of last years openforce US conference and answered these questions for you in the past, I am confused as to why you persist in this policy of disinformation.

Last year at OpenForce North America, the founders of DotNetNuke Corp. laid out a vision for DotNetNuke Cambrian which is the codename for a SERIES of releases which encompasses a number of key features.  We never expected all of these features to be included in a single release, nor have we ever said anything to imply that they would be in 5.0.  What we have said is that we are commited to providing this functionality.  DotNetNuke 5.0 is the first release on the Cambrian roadmap.  It is not all of Cambrian.  DotNetNuke 5.0 will include major rearchitecting of key portions of the DotNetNuke framework.  We probably could have had DNN 5.0 out much sooner if we didn't care about breaking existing modules and skins.  Instead we have taken our time to get this right and make sure we could continue to honor our commitment to make upgrades as smooth as possible and try and avoid negating the investment community members have made in existing 3rd party extensions.

With 5.0 getting closer to release, we will be in a position to aggressively pursue development of the remainder of the Cambrian roadmap.  Expect to hear big announcements at OpenForce North America this year regarding this topic.  A lot has happened in the last year and we can't wait to share it with the community.  So instead of listening to rumors and distortions from others, come to the conference and hear first hand the exciting news.
