Is there a standard component available for editing a single database table? (reference table)

If not i'm thinking of creating my own module in which you can specify a table and columns and use a gridview to edit, delete and add records.

have a look at UserDefinedTable, which allows you (virtually) to create individual tables and add/edit/delete records. To access existing tables, there are a number of 3rd party module, like e.g. SQLGridSelectedView

I have downloaded and tested SQLGridSelectedView and it looks promising.
I'm using it with an Oracle database and the reporting functionality works good. However as soon as I enable the edit functionality, I receive an error:

Error:
System.ArgumentException: Column '' does not belong to table Table. at System.Data.DataRow.
GetDataColumn(String columnName) at System.Data.DataRow.set_Item(String columnName, Object value) at TressleWorks.SQLGridSelectedView.SQLGridSelectedView.ReviseDSforCRUD(DataSet oDS) at TressleWorks.SQLGridSelectedView.SQLGridSelectedView.DisplayGrid(String psSortExpr, Boolean pbExport)

Any help would be appreciated.

Jeffery,

I believe the issue is you have not defined a column name for the Update or delete column -- probably using ICON option -- but the name is still required.   Please contact me at SQLGridSelectedView at tressleworks dot ca  if you haven't already done so...

Hope this helps.
Paul.

Dont' forget about the humble DNN lists if you're looking to store reference data for a module.  It's part of the core distribution (host->lists), has a simple list editor.  You can easily write a script to insert reference items with your module install, and you can do hierarchial organization.
