How to back up and restore an individual "portal" instead of the whole DNN instance?

We have a instance consisting of multiple "portals" running in the same DNN installation.

How to give to my customers a single copy of their portals and assure a complete portal restoring in case of loosing data, for example?

Is there a way to back up a portal (consisting of multiple sites) and later restore a single portal instead of the entire instance?

Does anybody know a dnn module with that feature?

Thanks & best regards

there is a 3rd party tools called Evoviva Backup, which promised to accomplish this task, though I haven't tested it yet. Check out the Marketplace and Snowcovered.

 Hi Patricia,

Although there may be modules that claim to do this, I would honestly recommend taking the philosophy of "Portals that run together restore together" simply because of all of the complexities that would be involved in restoring just one portal (what about users, custom modules, permissions, etc?).  If you do decide to try a product that claims to be able to do that, I would _HIGHLY_ recommend making sure that you do a complete backup of the entire install first and make sure you can restore that before you try restoring just a single portal.

Patricia,

You can separate the site from the install, if that is what you are looking for.  You can backup the entire install and database, and then restore it in another space or on a test server.  On the new instance, you can then delete all of the other portals.  From there, you can perform other cleanup such as uninstalling modules not used.   I would also check files and folders to make sure that nothing remains from the old sites such as data folders, and then retest the remaining site.

Once the separation is complete and tested, a backup of this install and database can be given to the customer.
