Hi folks

I was wondering how you would go about creating a site with no Login required for basic users (ie anonymous access) -  it seems the only way administrators / content editors can do stuff is through logging into the site so there has to be  Login module available however as my standard users are not required to login I dont not want to display this module  to everyone - any ideas ?

thanks

John

For sites with no "outside user" accounts we usually just change the "Login" link prompt to say "Admin Login" to help avoid end-user confusion over who the login is for.

Unless you've placed the login module on a page, the module should not be displayed to users unless they click the "Login" link.  Are you wanting to hide everything having to do with "login" including the link?  If so, you might be interested in this thread (look about 10 posts down into the thread):  http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/108/threadid/270163/scope/posts/Default.aspx

Thanks for your replies

YES I need content editors to make changes  -  that doesnt mean I want all my users to see a login screen that means nothing to them as standard internet users do not need to Login  - Im new to Content Management systems but its strange and not very secure that all users / administrators go through the same entry point.

For the time being I will create an  ADMIN / EDITORS  Login Page that is seperate from the Home Page and not accessible through standard Navigation

please explain what is strange about that. Thats the paradigm of most content management systems (if not all). Security is not hiding your logon page (because anyon understanding the application can easily find out where to logon), security is about choosing secure passwords and making sure you keep them secret. You can also use different usernames for admin and host so those will be harder to guess, and you can also create ssl logon pages, so you will be sure that the passwords that are entered are sent securely to the server. Finally you could have chosen to use hashed passwords instead of encrypted, to make sure that it is impossible to retrieve passwords from the database....
