Hello!  If all I need to do is create a simple form with some simple code behind and post the form contents to another server, do I need to create a module to do that?

yes, and it is not a difficult task, even for novice and unexperience developers. check out the development tutorials from Michael Washingtom @ dotnetnuke.adefwebserver.com.

I thought that might be the case but I couldn't find one example of module development that didn't use a database so I thought maybe modules were only for database apps and a custom page could be done differently.  Even the hello world example used a database!  Thanks for the reply and the resource!

any content is placed inside a module, there is no need for database use, you can simply request input and send per mail, display current time (Clock module) or attach to a web service.
