I originally posted this on the ASP.Net Forumns and was asked to post it here for more help.

Below is my original post and the update I received.

Any further information would be extremely helpful.

Thanks

I have read alot of posts regarding this but I have not found any clear answers.

Does this functionality exists?

If so in what versions?

If not is it in the plans?

Any info would be helpful.

I actally have this working in a DNN 1.10 portal and I need to upgrade the site but I just read so many conflicting post relating to this topic.

If I create the same userid and password in multiple portals should this work?

If I changed the SPROC to loop throough the collection of portal id's to make the same change accross all portals this should work, right?

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with this in Versions 3.x or 4.x

I think there might be a limitation with the membership provider but I am not sure.

Yes, there are limitations in place because of the membership/profile provider. The core team is currently working on a solution to get around this, which will, as I understand it, remove this limitation and allow cross-portal users.

I believe there is mild support for this now, but the system still treats the accounts as separate. From a discussion I was privvy to, I think the current implementation requires a new user to have the same username and password upon registration; however, since they are different accounts, each can have their password changed after the fact, which is how they get out of sync. I haven't played with this, so I can neither confirm nor deny this is how it works in reality, but that's my basic understanding.

Hope this helps.

NOTE: Don't expect too many responses here - we're migrating to DNN forums. Your post belongs in the Let’s Chat About It! forum on the DNN site. If you have any further questions/comments, please post there. Thanks!!!
