I have a need for specific users on my website to be able to edit part of a page that represents their club. Some of the modules on their club page are set up by the site administrators and the user will not be able to edit these.

But, there is a TEXT/HTML module on their page that they should have access to edit and insert content as they see fit.

My problem is that although I know how to add a specific user to give them rights to edit this TEXT/HTML module, when logged in as that user I get a really minimal editor instead of the FCKEditor. This provides really basic editing functionality that may not be enough for the end users of the site (I haven't established this yet).

My question is, is there any way to allow these users access to the module editor screen with the FCKEditor instead of the in-place minimal editor I currently see. I've looked but can't seem to find a way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Sean

usually all users should have the option to use full editor except you limited the toolbar by using extended settings of the FCKEditor provider (link beneath the editor frame).

Thanks Sebastian,

That helped me to understand the custom toolbars (although I hadn't in fact changed any of the defaults). I now have a problem though and hope you can help a little further.

The page I'm talking about is located here. The only module I want my specific user to edit is the bottom Text/HTML module between the two horizontal red lines.

I have now set the Page permissions to "All Users" -> View and added one specific user to allow "View Page" and  "Edit Page". On all the modules on the page, I have overridden the page's settings by unchecking "Inhert View permissions from page".

For all of the modules I don't want the user to edit settings and text, I have added the user name to the permissions list and changed the permissions to "View Module". For the Text/HTML at the bottom of the page, I've added both "View Module" and "Edit Module" permissions. The cache on the page is currently set to 0 seconds to ensure a refresh.

Despite these settings, the specific user has full access to all of the controls on the page (i.e. I can edit the text and settings on all of the modules). This is despite being able to see that the user does not have those rights when I look at the module's settings.

Any idea what's going wrong here? Have I made a glaringly stupid error that I can't see?

I should explain that I gave this user Page Edit permissions because without it, I only seem to get the Basic Editor toolbar on the page when I tried to edit the text, instead of the full fckEditor text box.

Hope that's all clear and someone can help!

Sean,

make sure to grant edit permission for the module (in Module Settings) not for the page, if the user shall be able to edit content only.

OK, I did what you suggested and removed access to "Edit" at the page level. So we're back to only having Admins able to "Edit Page". No other user or role has access to Edit at the page level. I've restored the "Inherit view permissions from page" to all modules except the one I need my user to have access to.

I've now granted my single user "Edit Module" permissions for the Text/HTML control at the bottom of the page.

I've gone into the fckEditor options and disabled all toolbars except "DNNDefault". "DNNDefault" is enabled for "All Users". I've stored these settings at the "Instance" level to be sure I'm operating specifically with this control and not a cascading rule from Portal or Module levels.

I can confirm that an unauthorized user cannot edit the text, my admin account edits the page and therefore sees the regular fckEditor with large edit area underneath so I can lay out my text properly.

But, when I log in as the user I need to edit the content, I see a pencil editor icon as I would expect. However, when I click on the pencil, the single line of text is presented with a red line around it and when I hover over this, I see the basic fckEditor toolbar. Furthermore, I am restricted to editing all of my text in that one line, so when I type more than one line of text or press Return, I still only have one line visible to edit the text in. This is an awful user experience and I can't leave it like this.

I am assuming (perhaps wrongly) that when I click on the pencil to edit the text, I should see a full fckEditor window with the DNNDefault toolbar available to me. This means I want to see the toolbar with a big text box underneath it and the DNNDefault toolbar above it.

Is this what I should expect, or am I wrong? If it *is* what I should expect, can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Again, many thanks for the continued help!

Sean
