I am having a lot of trouble with confirmation and newsletter e-mails that DNN generates (Ver 4.8) .  I need some basic information in order to track the problems down.

The SMTP Setup as host seems to work ok, but I have additional portals set up as parent portals (i.e. www.myportal01.com, www.myportal02.com)

When a verification e-mail is sent from the aliased portal - from where does it originate?? does it use the sender e-mail address associated with the admin in the child portal (aka the newsletter module) or the address in the profile of the person signed in, or the 'from' address in the host configuration?  Where do the confirmation e-mail come from?

Thanks for any help

the from address that is used is the email addres from the assigned administrator for that portal. You can find out which user that is, by going to portal settings and checking the portal administrator.

The current system in DotNetNuke is as follows.

You have a single configuration at the host level, this defines the SMTP server that is going to be used.

Emails that are sent are sent FROM the email address that is stored for the "admin" user for each portal.

Therefore, your SMTP gateway MUST allow sending with those values as "From" addresses.

Thanks, but that doesn't totally compute, since there can be more than one administrator for a portal.  Is it the first login name that is assigned the administrator role?

I think you can check that in admin/site settings as to who the portal administrator is.
