Hello,

i have been struggling to get DNN installed under a GoDaddy subdomain.

My problem is as follows:

I have a domain www.domain.com . DNN works fine under that domain.

I tried to create a parent portal for my subdomain sub.domain.com but didn't work out. That would have been the ideal solution, but couldn't get it to work. Any ideas on this?

Since i couldn't get the portal idea to work, i then tried to install DNN under sub.domain.com but again, didn't get it to work. I would thought that this is a straghtforward procedure, but apparently it is not ..

I would appreciate any comments you can make on this.

Thank you in advance,

Mary M.

Hi Mary,

this is possible in DNN (I did it before, and it is simple): just add your subdomain as portal alias for your portal, and you're done. Then you'll need to tell IIS to point requests to the subdomain to your DNN install, and this should be done through Godady tools.

Best regards,

Hi Dario,

thanks for the suggestion. I have already tried creating a new portal and adding the subdomain as portal alias and it didn't work. The portal was created but i was not able to browse to it. I think i was missing some of the installation tabs, as i couldn't find a home tab and a login tab for the new subdomain portal. I tried adding them mannualy but didn't work. Any ideas on this?

I have done my job my adding all the DNN files in a separate folder inside my domain and pointed the IIS website there. This results to 2 separate databases, which was not what i was looking for. So, any ideas on the prementioned errors are much appreciated.

Thanks!

Mary M.

Hi Mary,

IIS should point both the domains to the same DNN installation, there's no need to duplicate files or databases. DNN will create a folder for each portal under the portals folder and portal specifica files will be stored there. DNN is able to parse the user's incomint request to display the correct portal data according to the portal alias that has been defined.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa
