It seems strange that I'm having trouble finding a basic mailing list module for DNN. Does anyone know of one? This is for people to be able to mail mygroup@mydomain.com and for it to go to people who have a certain role. Since DNN isn't the mail server, I would assume it would need a constant schedule to check an administrative mailbox, and then distribute the email. It would be great if there was a user interface for members to get in/out of the group - or for administrators of the group to be able to add DNN registered users to the list. The only ones I've seen have been geared toward marketing campaigns. Thanks! -TNT

Thomas, this isn't exactly module-type functionality. It seems to me what you are asking for is really a "List Server" type application that would sit outside of DNN. If you had a separate List Server, and you wanted to synch it with DNN, then you would need something that synch's roles or profile properties to the List Serv application.

Thomas - The DotNetNuke module Axon does exactly what you are looking for.  Details are on www.DotNetNukeEmail.com

Axon can do a lot, so for specific details on this, go to http://www.dotnetnukeemail.com/GettingStartedwithAxon/ListServerCampaigns/tabid/362/Default.aspx

Thanks for your reply. This is a common community/club function. Sure, you could program a separate app outside of DNN, but why are you saying it has to be outside of DNN? Imagine a mailing list which could be any combination of users, roles, or free form typed addresses... all mixed together.... and then eventually some other forms inside of DNN could add people into those lists.

The problem is that DNN would need to sit on top of the webserver for it to be able to receive e-mails and make a routing decision based on a role that may be associated with that destination address.  I very well may be wrong, but to my understanding you probably couldn't do that, or it would simply be more work than it's worth to make it happen.  There are, however, some really nice modules out there to blast out targeted e-mails to users based on their role.  DataSprings Opt-In e-mail as well as DNN Modules E-mail Manager are specific one's I've used with success.
