Hi, i'm currently volunteering at a small charitable organisation to help them with updates to their website which uses DNN. They are in need of a way for people to go to their site and send pre-written emails out to different members of parliament, and i'm wondering if there is a current module which would allow for the kind of functionality that they require. I was prepared to write my own custom module but because of the way the site is hosted the hosting manager probably won't allow custom modules as they would worry it could crash the server and take down all the sites.

So basically I need a module which would allow a user to select one of many different pre-written paragraphs / emails then select from a list (multi select preferably) of different people then hit "Send" or similar andthe module would send out email to each of those people with the message the user selected.

Hopefully some one knows of a current module which would allow for this and I would much appreciate your input on the matter. Bear in mind we have a very small budget for this kind of thing so would be looking for the cheapest solution but will consider anything at this stage.

Thanks.

Before you spend any money on this you should check VERY carefully if the hosting manager will allow what you want.

IMO the hosting company has no way to distinguish between crappy code written by you and crappy code written by someone else.  The installation process is the same for both.

So - if he won't install your module why would he install anyone else's?

Hi James

I agree that there's no guarantee that a 3rd party might be better than something you develop yourself, though usually easier and more purpose/reason for malice on the inside.

That said... if you can, I'd recommend looking at OpenWebStudio (free) as I know this would enable you to quite easily create a configuration to do what you need.

I can't recall coming across any 3rd party modules to do this, though some of the forms or development modules might be setup to do it.

Cheers

David

This can be easily built using Xmod and the templates feature of the FCK editor.  So the only cost you would have would be Xmod and your time to build it.
