I'm working on redesigning a literary webzine and converting it to DNN. Are there any modules out there that lend themselves to a the publishing of articles using a traditional issue-oriented process? That is, not using a continuous stream of articles like you see in a lot of sites, but publishing a set of articles at once as an issue. I understand that I can always develop my own, but I'm looking to save on the development time.

Features that I'm looking for include:

  • Assignment of articles to categories, and be able to present archives by category.
  • Assignment of authors.
  • User comments/feedback.
  • RSS feed.
  • Title images.

The webzine is a not-for-profit undertaking, so price is an important factor.

Use of existing modules to achieve the same ends is also an option. Basically, we're trying to adding community features (blogs, forums, etc.) and also add some content management for the webzine proper to avoid the need to create every page manually for an issue.

To see the current structure of the webzine, you can see it here: www.wildviolet.net.

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Take a look at Ventrian's News Article module.  If you have a budget that can handle it, also take a look at Engage's Publish module.  Both have the features that you need.  If I had the choice, I'd do it with Publsh as I think that it is somewhat more flexible.  Also, Publish's comments can be linked to Active Forums.
