We are using MS media server  and have no issues to include the necessary html code either in Text/HTML module for a single video or using UserDefinedTable module for a list of videos.

Many people talk about video "streaming" when they actually mean progressive download video.
In the former the video is "pushed" from a steaming servers such as Windows Media Server to a video player embedded in a web page.
With progressive download the player simply downloads the clip and begins playing as soon as it has enough frames cached.
With streamed video the content is not stored on the client machine and all formats now have some kind of digital rights management.  With progressive download the client machine has copy of the file somewhere.

Progressive download is transmitted over http but streaming video may use lighter transports as such things as packet resend are not required for sequential, linear streams. These protocols tolerate some data loss and concentrate at delivering data at a constant rate. They will also take priority over http traffic.

There are some real security issues to video streaming for ISP's that mean its unlikely to get access to WMS or any other on a shared hosting server.
In my experience using a third party streaming server soon gets expensive.

You may also want to look at the Silverlight and Flash video servers but these cost money unlike WMS which is part of windows server. Be aware that WMS content may require plug-ins for FF and Safari which few seem to have. IMO: Silverlight is the (cheapest non WMS) way to go.

A useful overview paper that I pulled off MS a while ago (and can no longer find there) is here
Some of the tech refs and numbers are a bit dated but the concepts remain about the same.

Of course you can always embed a player in a text module or i-frame and do progressive download for your site.

I am going to have a chat with a colleague who does a lot of video streaming for natural history purposes (nest cams etc) and do a more informed post on how to setup as it may be of use to many.
