To make a very nice layed out store I would go with a combination of OWS and Catalook. It would be great if Catalook had an api or service or something

You caould then use the catalook module to fill store database etc and thenset up a few ows module for the product menu, the product list and display of the shopping cart. If there was an api you could simple call this on a button or link click from any location and have optimal freedom in designing store pages. Is there a module that has this feature?

@Tim - email me - I'm not that far away that you can't email me - nina@xd.com.au - that goes through my gmail account - then I'll give you my normal email address.. (spam management I'm afraid)

@Armand - I believe there is facility for web services now with Catalook - not sure how much it's developed but I have heard of some sites using that functionality - is that something that could help?

Our sites run well, are rock solid - I have to give credit to DNN and Catalook that inspite of what people think is top heavy - I can assure you it's not - when you know where to tweak and massage the product - it runs well, runs fast, day in day out.

I have to echo what Nina said here, Catalook runs fantastic - Once you get over the learning curve.  For almost everyone I recommend that they not do this alone, hire somone like Nina that has the experience.  You'll be much happier, and in the end, more profitable faster.

i've been doing some research online in an attempt to pick an ecommerce solution for my dnn portal. i am encountering a LOT of negative comments about using dnn for an online store. does ANYONE out there have a well running ecommerce site up and running which uses DNN?

Our site runs catalook for buying sake, www.sakesocial.com, however the browse functionality, sake selector, and ratings were custom built by AppTheory.  Most everything else is core.

If you have questions my email is Jason@ our sake domain name.

Because we are doing our first ecommerce project I wanted to see how much I could style it. I wasnt too impressed with all the template features( way too much options ) so what I did was use the catalook admin etc and just queried the catalook dtabases myself for a custom display of data

see a walkthough movie here I use the catalook category table for the accordionpanels and each panel has the corresponding links matching that catagroy id, the add to cart functionality si done by a callback to the instant order catalook functionality
