I have built a couple of DNN sites and must say I am quite addicted and really love it. However... the performance issue is a real bug bear and after all the reading I have done I can install pageblasters, keepalives etc. But the one that seems to really work is the 15min site ping interval (the only downside is the site reporting will be wrong) My question is is it a simple ping to get the site's to reload? Or is there a custom script I can run..

Thanks

This is the easiest and cheapest thing to do -> http://www.smartertools.com/downloads/SmarterPing_Setup.exe

Set that up on your dedicated server if you have one, or on your home computer. But if your computer is off, it is not working. Have it ping keepalive.aspx on each of your sites every ten minutes or so.

thanks,

Will

A ping will not reload the site, reset cache or affect any web services in any way.  Ping takes place on a different port and is responded to by a different service.

Performance improves greatly through a number of factors, one of which is getting more users so the site is used constantly.  :)

As Will mentioned you just need a request to an aspx page on the site.  If you don't have a server that you can run smarter ping on, you can look at third party services.  I run one called MyWebKeepAlive, there is also Host-Tracker and Pingdom.

besides runing your own keepalive service, there are a number of online services, checking the availability of your web site every few minutes and notifying you, when it is down (e.g. mon.itor.us or www.host-tracker.com).

on your own server you may simply disable application pool recycle after inactivity.
