SmartSocial from http://www.smart-thinker.com is a free open source social network and social networks are big  these days. I was wondering if there are any efforts in extending it by a developer community.

Just for the record, Smart-Thinker ceased to support SmartSocial for new customers back in January and hence made it free for anyone to develop further (in the end the time spent on support outweighed the revenue it generated - you can read more about it here).

I still do the odd release when I have requirements for PokerDIY so it is still very much alive and working code, I just have no plans to develop it further commerically and rely on community support/development.

It is an incredibly functional product suite but the downside of this is that people want to install it and click a few settings and have their site up and running. To achieve this would mean an incredible development effort which I could not afford (customers wanted end user features immediately and continously). In the end the support was costing me too much of my time and it was cheaper to not sell it/support it and focus on my other baby, PokerDIY ;)

Just thought I would mention it as I learnt a lot from being a commercial module developer and it could benefit others...
