 Hello All,

I have a gif as a link to an advertiser on a customers site for the last few months, and he is now asking me how many clicks the add has received and how many add impressions it has received.

As far as I can see, the site log is not reporting the click that the add would have had.  Is there a way that I can report that?  Would I have to write custom code behind the link?  Or would I have to direect the link to another specific page, and then that page would jump to the advertisers site?  That sounds sort of link a hack, but something tells me the DNN is not tracking the clicks on links within a page.

As the guy has been paying for 6 months now, I am a little embarrased that I cannot tell  him how many clicks he has received.  Any help would be appriciated.

On a second note, he is also asking for qty of add impressions.  I sort of assume that "add impressions" must mean how many times the add has been displayed in total.  So to calculate that, I just need to review the site log for all the pages that contain his add and report that figure.  Do you think my assumption is correct?

thanks in advance for your assistance,

you should have used the vendors & banners module for the add, it contains click count etc

Did you enable DNN tracking for the Link on the image? In this case the data is stored in URLTracking table. otherwise the IIS site log might be of help.

 Hello Sebastian,

I did not set up tht particuar page, but I have to admit with version 5.0.1, I had some problems getting banner ads to work well.  Never did solve it.  As a result, we just placed a few static links on the site in various places.  When I upgrade to Version 5.1 shortly, I will try again with the banner ads.

In the mean time, the ad in question is simply a image in a text/html box.  So I am guessing that I will not be able to get reports on it.  It is not a link in a Links module, and when I right click I can view some properties if the link but I do not see anything mentioning reporting.

It is our own fault, I guess, I should have perservered with the banner ads.

Am I correct in assuming that as it is just a link in a text/html, there are no options that would report for that link?

Switch asap to banner ads

Thanks Sebastian,

Mark

if it is ane external link using URL directly in the link, user transfer happens on the client side without notification of DNN. If it uses Linkclick.aspx and the URL is listed in URLTracking table, you can use the data found in this table.

 Hello Sebastian,

Yes, now that I see the linkclick.aspx screen in my mind, I know that was the way it should have been done.  I may try to change it in the short term, but in the medium term, I am going to upgrade from 5.0.1 to 5.1 and then I will either use the existing DNN vendors and banners, or else I may install a TP module for similar functinonality, I was listening to Lee Sykes this morning on my walk referring to a TP vendors module.

I will let you know when it it working,

thanks again for your time,

Have a good weekend,

Mark
