Throughout DNN there are little question marks next to each form field which can be clicked to reveal some extra info about that particular field.

I think this is a great feature as it allows users to check exactly what each field does.

However, has anyone ever tried using them? Here's a couple which I recently tried to check:

Public Role? > Is this Role a Public Role?
Authorize: > Authorize this user

Does it help to know that ticking the box next to 'Authorize' on a user creation form will authorize the user?

Similarly, there are many situations where there really is no need at all for this help box:

First Name: > Enter a First Name

If somebody can't figure that one out then they shouldn't be using the internet!

What are everybody's thoughts? I haven't personally been involved in the DNN project yet other than as a user but would be happy to go through these tooltips and help make some sense out of them if the community agrees that this is an issue?

IMO the general feature is great and I chose to make most of the texts more detailed in the German translation (for original help texts, an English native speaker would be appropriate to show up to take care of this issue).

The reason for this is that the DNN Core is not targetted at any particular business requirements or audience - hence they have to be simple and generic.

For example, on my site, PokerDIY, I go through every single language string on the core and give it a poker-theme with an informal tone, whereas a more business-like site might adopt a more professional tone etc. depending on the target audience.

There are of course some generic ones but I change all of the core language strings anyway so I am not sure if it is worth spending time on this...

For example, check out the tooltips here:
