Hi guys,

I have a doubt:

a)i want to use dotnetnuke but my application is not a typical website but its the integration of the three module namely content management system, property management system and interaction with accounting system database.

b)i think i will have to use lots of forms to collect the data from the public/staff....send it to the database and again show it in the page for edit, update and delete based on the user role.

c)My System also may add lots and lots of table to the database and here we may be talking about more than 10 gigs of data from 5 years from now.

d)My system wants lots of flexiblity in the design aspects too.

At this point its hard for me to decide whether to go with dotnetnuke or not but i want to use it because it has really lots of useful modules like chat, calendar, media, file management which fulfills some of  my project objective. Please suggest me.I am flexible to buy some external modules if my development is easier to some extent.

Thanks
Sudeep

 Hi Sudeep

While I am not a developer I think that you should be able to achieve a high percentage of your requirements using available modules.
You may want to take a look at IndooGrid http://www.indoolab.com/

There are many advantages to using DNN not the least of which are the many talented and knowledgeable people (myself not included) available in these forums.
To date the only thing I have found a problem doing in DNN is a "shop". In all other instances I have met my objectives.

Can I suggest that you define your requirements in a little more detail - I am sure there are many here able to provide good guidance.
"property management system" and "interaction with accounting system database" are a bit vague.

hi,

what property management system usually does is input all the property(Apartments),tenant, rate information to the database...it should have many conditional fetch of data from database...it should be able to add particular charges to particular project number(property)....it should be able to display the reports of tenant ledger using crystal reports,..the application should be able to display, edit, update, delete data for particular property unit number....it should be able to filter the data as i want,..it should have functionality which can fetch some data and export to ms excel...it should have some lease master form which shows info about properties and their related records...it should be able to charge rent to all the properties and units at the start of the month automatically ..moreover it should generate lots of crystal reports about different stuff in property management aspects such as past tenant reports, journal entry, lease expiration reports..and other many.....

when i am talking about accounting database..i was talking about microsoft solomon or SL(accounting software) to be able to pull data from its database and generate the income expesnse report(crystal report) for the particular property.

would somebody please answer whether it is possible or not???or shall i start  with custom development??

thanks

sudeep

DotNetNuke is a framework, providing you with user, page and module management (as well as other services), and offering to use all development features of .Net framework. You can implement any function in your modules like you can in a custom .Net application, and you may also use any other existing module to concentrate on your specific needs. On the downside, you will face the need to get into the DNN framework API, but in most cases it is worth it (compared to developing web sites from the scratch).
