On the download page if you want to download the admin or install guide, you have to fill out first a form with your personal info. Arrgghh.. I hate it when people do this. I just want to download the thing. It's not software, it's just some text. I do not wish you to call me or email me. This forces me to type in any garbage so they can leave me alone.

So what's the purpose of this? The corp is building a mailing list so we get more spam so they can upsell us stuff so they can make money so they can get a return on their investment?

I have also found those annoying forms all over the place like when trying to view a webinar etc.... It drives me nuts & most the time I dont even bother.

What I don't get is that I am already logged in so DNN Corp knows who I am so why do I have to tell them everytime I want to download or view something.

I hope they rethink this soon as it is very bad marketing that will turn people away very quickly.

DNN Marketing please read the follow before creating long annoying registration forms when you already know who we are:

I could go on but got some work to do, so please, please stop making me type in fake details when you already know who I am ;)

Do what I do, fill it out with bogus information.  In my case, Shaun Walker downloaded the guide.  I also asked them to have a saleperson contact me, using my email address, sales@dotnetnuke.com.  I too hate these forms.  But I do so enjoy screwing with sales people.  :)

First, only if you are a registered member does DNN already have your information. And since I'm guessing the button to download the guide is available to non- logged in users then it's nice to know who is interested enough to download the guide.

Second, we salespeople are used to people screwing with us. Which we like much better than people doing nothing at all. Plus it's fun to "screw back" sometimes.

The real issue here is that DNN sales team needs to be a bit careful in using commercial sales/marketing tools/tactics in an open source environment.  Well...... in an environment that used to be open source anyway.  A commercial open source environment - how's that?  Of course that assumes that DNN Corp has an interest in maintaining the open source side of the project. If not and you just want to rape the project for as many sales leads as you can as fast as you can then any tool/tactic that works is fair game.

<edit>  I'll be even more disappointed in the DNN sales team if they don't figure out a way to mess with Jeff C since he has publicly laid down the gauntlet!!!
