Hi,

We are running DNN 4.9.x with GZip compression enabled and whitespace filtering disabled in DNN.  Compression is disabled in IIS6.0.  However, when I analyse my SonicWALL Secure home page page with the latest version of YSlow in Firefox 3.5.3 it reports that many files are not being GZipped as follows:

There are 18 plain text components that should be sent compressed

* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/Portals/_default/default.css
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/Portals/0/Skins/AeroMidnight/skin.css
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/Portals/0/Containers/AeroMidnight/C00_Clean.css
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/Portals/0/Containers/AeroMidnight/C01_Basic_noTitle.css
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/Portals/0/portal.css
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/DesktopModules/DigRotate/Templates/Rotate-Blue/template.css
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/DesktopModules/Markit.SlideShow/CSSHandler.ashx?...
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/Portals/0/Skins/AeroMidnight/BoxedColor.css
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/WebResource.axd?...
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/js/dnncore.js
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/js/dnn.js
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/js/dnn.xml.js
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/js/dnn.xmlhttp.js
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/DesktopModules/DigRotate/digrotate.js
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/DesktopModules/Markit.SlideShow/js/Markit-Core-111.js
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/DesktopModules/Markit.SlideShow/js/Markit-SlideShow.js
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/controls/SolpartMenu/spmenu.js
* http://www.sonicwallsecure.com/Portals/0/Skins/AeroMidnight/swfobject.js

The above is confirmed by a secondary analysis with Google's tool.

I have restarted the DNN application and IIS without effect.

The issue here is that the .js and .css files make up circa 430k of my page's content - a sizeable percentage.  They should also compress well so there would seem to be a significant performance advantage to be gained.

Can anyone advise why these files (and in fact I think perhaps all files) are not being GZipped by DNN?

Thanks in advance,

Lee.

 Yes, I was wondering about this as well. I was certain to have read something about this before, but I just can't find it anymore.
