Hi everybody,

Since quite long the what's new module of DNN hasn't been updated, and its functionality seems limited for a serious website. But surprisingly i am not able to find any good What's New module commercially as well!

Well... is it that this functionality is not in demand within the community?

Anyways, if you can, pls suggest me a good what's new module if you are aware of one.

thanks in advance,

Raghu

What would be your definition of "good?"  What does the DNN module do or not do that you think it shouldn't or should do?

Hi Jeff,

By 'Good' i meant that the What's New module should have:

1. Better functionality.
2. Better display/rendering of content.

The present module has issues with functionality such as displaying link of future items, restricted items, & deleted items and delayed updates... all these mainly because it depends on DNNSearch. Also i would want to see some customization options like choosing which modules to collect updates from, for example users on my portal write blogs and upload documents, those are the only 2 things i wish to include in 'What's New', not other modules. Then i would also want users to see the latest status of included modules 'What's New' without waiting for the search scheduler task to complete...

On the front end side i would want to customize the look n feel thru some XSL.

I think my requirements might be solved by REPORTS module... what do you think? but since i am not a database/programming guy its a tough task :)

Hope i gave enough details...

What's new module is an unsupported supplement, donated by DNN Corp based on work for a client.

It is based on the search index, simply displaying entries by date.

Okay. However the thing that makes me curious is, my requirements or expectations from Whats new module seems very common and obvious to me which most of the site owners would want... and if DNN hasn't supported this module then why is there is no commercial solution available as well? I think it should be in great demand.

If there is one exisiting out there pls let me know. Basic searching through snowcovered doesnt show any options.

Also... i still feel that it can best be done through reports module, so basically i am looking at Andrew Nurse (lead reports module) for some community gratification That will sure be a blockbuster addition to useful reports section! (i know... i should have paid attention in my SQL class:))
