Just wondering if most developers use the file manager. I created a folder called custom_images. This is where I am putting all of my images and ref these in my pages. What benefit does the file manager serve? I must be missing something big here.

The file manager allows you to organize and manage files and directories used throughout your portal. A number of other DNN modules use the portal file storage facility to upload files and/or use them when rendering content. It's only as useful as your needs dictate. If you have a lot of images to be used in Text/HTML Modules, documents to make available in Links or Documents Modules, or any of the other controls and modules that use the URL control, they all utilize the same portal file storage. Heck, all the icon/logo selectors use this same control.
