Hi.  I live in Phoenix, AZ.  I don't see any companies advertising for 'DotNetNuke' programmers in Phoenix.  There are a few ads in other states.  I guess 'DotNetNuke' is basically just a 'nice to have' accessory in the professional world.  I'm a newbee.  I just got the 'Professional DotNetNuke Module Programming' book and haven't gone through it yet.  I've put it at the bottom of my stack, after getting another certification (going for 'MCPD - Web Apps Framework 2.0' as I have the 'MCTS' in that).  I'm trying to get a job as I'm unemployed (and no .NET work experience - just VB .NET windows forms!).  Can anyone comment if or how DotNetNuke may help me professionally?

Hi Mark.

More or less i have the same thoughts. I live in Germany, lost my job in July (damned Economy Crisis!) and a freelancer now, mainly as a consultant in IT-Security Issues (Checking, Auditing.....). Beside this i'm with DNN for some years now and just in learning programming modules for DNN.
Maybe some of my customers are looking for a (new) Intranet-Solution. I will then show him DNN, as i'm really convinced about it.

However, i don't know, whether i will earn enough money with it, but there are some points to consider:
- there is definitely a market for good modules or skins, especially professional ones
- i think as more people are using and promoting it, DNN will become more and more well known and used
- you won't ever know when not trying

It does not matter where you're located. We are talking about delivering a special service for a Web-Portal-System. Today we can do almost everything remotely. When thinking about advertising, do it nationwide, not state or city-related.

As far as i know, there are some webpages where DNN-professionals can promote themselves. Unfortunately i can't remember the url, but google will help you.

I would start with some small projects, giving them for free to the audience (like i just started), wait for feedback and improve your knowledge. When you have the brilliant idea for a "killer-app", build it, test it (with beta testers from here) and then sell it. Bingo.

Hope that helps

Kai

You don't find "DotNetNuke Programmers" advertised because they are just ASP.NET programmers.  You will need experience to get a job in the field, and the best way to get experince is to start coding.  Develop a module for DNN, even a freebie, to get your skills up to par.  Let the rest of the world decide if it's good.  Heck, you may end up developing independent modules as your career.

DotNetNuke is a great framework for a .NET developer to work with, but it's not, by itself, going to help you professionally.

Jeff
