I am using 04.08.04  ( 'cos I am scared to update on my live site!)

I recently added a new security role and when applying the role to a user got the message below.  Any assistance you could provide a willing newbie in fixing it would be much appreciated.

Error: is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: String reference not set to an instance of a String. Parameter name: name ---> System.ArgumentNullException: String reference not set to an instance of a String. Parameter name: name at System.Globalization.CultureInfo..ctor(String name, Boolean useUserOverride) at DotNetNuke.Security.Roles.RoleController.SendNotification(UserInfo objUser, RoleInfo objRole, PortalSettings PortalSettings, String Action) at DotNetNuke.Security.Roles.RoleController.AddUserRole(UserInfo objUser, RoleInfo objRole, PortalSettings PortalSettings, DateTime effDate, DateTime expDate, Int32 userId, Boolean notifyUser) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Security.SecurityRoles.cmdAdd_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) in C:\*** host*** \httpdocs\www\Admin\Security\SecurityRoles.ascx.vb:line 542 --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

AFAIR this issue didn't happen, when adding a user to a role (in Admin :: Roles) instead of applying a Roles to a user (in Admin :: User Accounts).

Anyhow, you should upgrade at least to DNN 4.9.5 for security reasons!! (It is not very difficult but always start with a backup of your fiels and database!!)

You should be more scared to run a vulnerable live site.
