Today, I blogged about the 3 minute survey that the folks at PowerDNN put together to analyze your company needs and determine if you should get the Professional or Community version of DotNetNuke. Great idea! Go check it out!

Sorry, but I don't see any value in spreading this marketing list, which contains a number of inaccuracies, bearing the risk of frightening existing customer base. Both editions have the same core base, DNN Professional includes a number of extensions targeting to the needs of larger organisations, like distributed caching provider and HTML module with advanced workflow. It also includes support from DotNetNuke Corp. itself.

The decision is actually simple:

If you need dedicated support and/or you run DNN on a server farm, you really need the Professional version.  If you need indemnification against potential code licensing issues, you need the Enterprise(?) version.  If your boss says "I'm not letting you run Open Source code, we don't have any guarantees it'll work right!" then you need the Professional version (and a new job).  Otherwise, the Community version should be your choice, even if you need to buy additional support from a third party.

SOME MEMBERS OF THE DOTNETNUKE COMMUNITY HAVE TOLD ME THAT THERE ARE SOME MISLEADINGS IN THE RESULTS THAT YOU GET FROM THIS SURVEY AND TONY VALENTI FROM POWER DNN IS LOOKING INTO THEM AND I AM SURE HE WILL FIX THE SURVEY TO GET BETTER RESULTS.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK IS MY ADVICE.
