We run multiple DNN websites and one of our servers was attacked this morning.   The hacker replaced the default.aspx page with their own version which was not so friendly.  The name of the hack was "virus_ra3ch".

Any ideas on how this would be possible?  The dnn versions run from 4.8.4 to 5.1.4.

One of the sites is publicly available but only by IP and port and it was not hit.  they only hit 1 out of the 3 servers in the farm too.

All help is greatly appreciated!

Sorry to hear about your problem. All of those versions listed suffer from known security issues - see http://www.dotnetnuke.com/News/Securi... for a list. Its possible that one of those may be the reason, but I'm not sure. There was an issue resolved in 4.8.2 that allowed the upload of files and we have reports of it being exploited along with a Microsoft security issue to get around the list of extensions, but as you're running 4.8.4 and above that will not affect you. In the case of a file being replaced, most often the issue is missing Microsoft security patches or a weak username/password on an FTP account. I recommend you update to the latest version (5.2.3 at time of writing) and ensure your server is correctly patched.

We are running 04.08.02 and had similar hacks recently, the msot recent this weekend from Real_Karizma. They seem to be uploading new aspx files and/or overwriting the default .aspx. Is there any fix for this we can quickly apply or notes on how this is beign done.

Kind of obvious here but...  The fix is to upgrade to a current version.  In your case, 4.9.5:  http://dotnetnuke.codeplex.com/releas...
