Having installed a new DNN site on a semi dedicated server. We have gone through the install process and when we run localhost the website appears. However, when we try to access remotely through IIS we get the error - This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage. Is this something to do with the access rights to the web folder?

Check to make sure you have anonymous access granted in IIS.

Yes anonymous access is granted in IIS. I think it may have something to do with the Security settings on the DNN folder.

Steve, what is your OS and IIS Version? if you can access to the servrer. In IIS Version 7 and 7.5 Go to IIS Expend sites > Right Click on your Website > Click Edit Permissions > On Security Tab, Check IIS_WP / IWPD User have correct permissions (Modify, Read & Execute). Also in "Authntication" that Anonymous and Windows Authentication are set correctly. If this does not solve your problem, can you post a full error here?

Thanks for your reply. I have set IIS for anonymous access and for windows authentication. The error I get is below. If I place an index.html file in my dnn folder it works so the IIS is pointing to the correct place but I am missing a setting somewhere. Appreciate your help with this.

Your Web service is now running.

You do not currently have a default Web page established for your users. Any users attempting to connect to your Web site from another machine are currently receiving an Under Construction page. Your Web server lists the following files as possible default Web pages: default.htm,default.asp,index.htm,iisstart.asp. Currently, only iisstart.asp exists.

To add documents to your default Web site, save files in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\.
