Hi,

i'm in the process of creating a module, but don't know which route to go. There's a minimum of 30 tables in the appso far..., 40% would just be simple table maintenance forms, while the others are the meat of the app.

i created the sample module, and just noticed that in the app_code there are 4 data layer files just for the simple demo table with 4-5 fields.

1. do i need all these files, it seems daunting and overkill.

2.besides SQL Server generating the base update/select/insert queries, i can't see me doing this by hand, is there a generator that will create the necessary files for the DNN framework ?

any advice greatly appreciated

Johnny,

Hey there Sticcino,

You can use ATGen SDK along with MyGeneration to do almost the whole DAL for you.  With just a set of tables to go off of it will create all of the SPs and base classes for you as well as create the project and install files. It's very nice and developed by a Core DNN guy to boot.

Cheers.

EntitySpaces also makes an excellent DAL/object persistence layer for custom module development. It has a lot of features the core DAL does not. It also uses MyGeneration to execute its templates. Give it a look.

Does ATGen   work in DNN 4.x?   I used it for 3.x and works.. although not very many updates...

DNNKickStart is progressing but not quite ready yet..   4.x

EntitySpaces .. wow..   Im going to try that out tonight...  says it works on foreign keys which would be very nice!
