I have a lot of websites that will be costly to upgrade, so I'm leaving them running on 5.1.1 for now.
My problem is that I'm moving these sites from one hosting service to another and finding that any sites containing AliCommerce are causing problems for my new hosting service, in that there is an outgoing connection string--over my head, but learning--ini the module.
I would prefer to remove the module altogether but recall that I tried this a couple of years ago and it resulted in a crashed site, so I had it restored to a backup to get running again.
I had a feeling this module was going to rear its ugly head again and here it is.

Does anyone have an idea of a process to remove the module without crashing the site?  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
John

In most cases, if a site crashes after removing a module it usually means there is something in the web.config file that is dependent on the module. Take a look at your web.config file and see if you see anything related to AliCommerce. If you do, I would suggest commenting the necessary entries out or removing them completely. Make sure you create a backup copy of your web.config file before making any changes. At that point, you should be able to remove the module without any problems. Another possible situation is that the module is actually a couple of modules and uninstalling one will break the others. Normally that isn't a problem for properly developed modules, but really don't know in this situation. If you want to be extra cautious, I would remove the modules from all pages on your site (at least the home and login page), then uninstall the module. Hope that helps.

Thanks Will!  That seems to go along with a message that I just got from our new Hosting providers: 3essentials.com.  We're in the process of moving many of our sites from iHost to these guys and they have been very responsive and fast in taking care of issues, unlike our soon to be former providers, iHost.  This is what I just for from the guys at 3E:
After commenting out all lines within the web.config file that contained a reference to either AliSuite or AliCommerce, we were successfully able to uninstall the AliCommerce module from within the DNN instance on ____________.

Thanks Again,
John
