I must admit I'm a bit shocked to see some people seeing this news in a negative light.  From everything I have heard about the AM purchase is that DNN is going to come with a fully-built social networking platform that can be leveraged and stretched in different directions.  The base forums product is going to be improved.  Essentially it will be the same price (free) but now you will get features that used to cost money.

The main people who miss out in the short term are the existing AM people - especially those who paid for software in the last couple of months.  But no transaction is frictionless and overall the outcome is positive.

Personally, when I heard the news, ideas for about 5 new social based modules popped into my head.  Utlimately this means that the spread of social networking features can spread much faster in DNN and throughout different modules.  This is never possible when one particular module is proprietary but has such a lock-out that it's not worth competing with.

As for the mail connector - it's going to be a while before this is taken off the market - my guess is that someone else can easily step in and fill this void.  There's no rules against developing clones of the features in PE and offering them either for free or for a small price.

Rodney - I can't believe you took a real job?  I feel abandoned all of a sudden!  No wonder I haven't been getting bug reports from you!  And here I was starting to think I could actually write 100% bug free software :)

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for sharing. I just hope (and expect) that 3rd party module developers will provide the same kinds of features that we will not able to get from Active Purchase anymore (unless you buy the Pro/Ent edition).

Regards,
Marc

The vast majority of those in favour of this sellout (clearly different than a buyout) are those in the dnn boardroom, Will and those who have not invested in an Enterprise license. Will can moderate me to hell on his site, but not here.

As far as i am concerned, i paid for a product that was to be subjected to ongoing updates, corrections and improvements. I have received virtually nothing since buying the Enterprise license. Recently Will posted that he is too busy in boardroom meetings to do much of anything to the Enterprise bits. Surprise surprise. I paid for something and did not receive it as advertised. As well, Will clearly stated ActivePurchase was to be released any day (in January). This was a lie.

We Enterprise clients have just cause for a class-action lawsuit.

I simply want my money back due to failure of performance of promised features of a purchased product.

AM will not even reply to my emails now, hoping i just go away. Find me at drew @ AquariusSystems.com and let's organize an action against this.
