Hi,

I'm looking for the first time for an ASP CMS, so excuse my newbie question:

In this project I need something like a media gallery. It must support categories or albums, and should be possible to upload pictures, pdf's and doc's into each album (all of these types into one, not separated). For pictures a thumbnail should be created automatically. For all entries it must be possible to add some text.
Is there a DNN module which supports this?

THere is no core module that supports this and I am not aware of a commercial one which meets all these requirements.

I have a podcast creating module which might fits your needs. You can upload an image, select a category, and a binary file. So in your case a pdf or word document. It does only allow one binary file and one image per listing however, I am not sure what all you are wanting to attach to your listings but you could always zip it up into one file. It also creates an RSS, ATOM, or iTunes xml feed for your listings as well, so a person could subscribe to your feed in the podcatcher of their choice and automatically download new listings as you post them. This also adds the ability for you to consume the feed with something like the Big Contact Feed Player to embed in your actual portal. Additionally, you can list your feed with iTunes or FireAnt, create a feedburner podcast of your feed, etc. You can template the display to look however you want for listing your albums as well. You can see the overview here, and the demo here.

Thanks for this hint. I an not interessted in RSS capabilities and similar, there is no need for this specific project. But maybe I could use this module. Some more questions:

Is it possible to automatically create a category from within another script?
It would be neccessary to arrange the ouput grouped by categories, with the category name as headline, like:
-h1- Category 1 -/h1-
doc -- text for doc
pdf -- text for pdf
pic1 -- text 1
pic2 -- text 2
-h1 Category 2 -/h1
doc -- text for doc
....
where -h1- is ment as the HTML Tag or a similar one.

are there any technical requirements to use this module higher than the ones of DNN?
Are thumbnails created automatically?

You can template the list display however you want, but they default to reverse chronological since that is the nature of feed creation. If you looked at the demo you saw how the filter by category worked. You have access to these tokens for your templates.

[USER] [DATE] [TIME] [TITLE] [CATEGORY] [DESCRIPTION]
    [IMAGE] [IMAGETHUMB] [FILE]

[IMAGE], [IMAGETHUMB], and [FILE] are the URL address to the image
or file respectively and facilitate their use in hyperlinks.

The template represents a single item, and is then repeated for the specified n number of items per page which is a module setting. The only thing that requires any technical knowledge is the template creation for which you will obviously need to know HTML. The thumbnails are created automatically provided you upload them through the DNN file manager, and it is not an URL to an external file.
