I'm having a difficult time wrapping my head around the prupose of these DNN 6.2 Social Features.

Having watched the tutorials, I see that I can have a journal, a member directory and I can have these placed on a community page. That seems like a good start, but typically users of a community do something at the community and this is what I'm failing to comprehend.

I would like users to be able to do typical tihngs like:

-Share a file to a predefined, categorized area

-Share a video to a predefined, categorized area

-Share an image to a predefined, categorized area

-Share an article to a predefined, categorized area

-Comment on or Rate other shared files, videos, images and articles

-Post in Forums

and so on...

Can someone please suggest some modules or point me to canned functionality in DNN 6.2 that will provide a community with something to do other than stare at a list of members please.

Berney,

I'm woking on implementing a site for a private social club and have been tossing around the same questions. Here's what I have found out so far.

It is my understanding (someone pls correct me if I'm wrong here) that the ActiveSocial framework is discontinued and being merged into core DNN functionality. This merging is not complete yet which is why a bunch of stuff is still "missing".

That being said, most of the things you listed seem to be already implemented, at least to a certain extent. The journal and the user profile modules allow for "Facebookish" type wall functionality (posting pictures, documents etc)  with comments and likes etc. There are some permissions issues with some of the modules, but overall IMHO it looks pretty good.

The forums module is in Beta and available here: http://activeforums.codeplex.com/rele...
Even though it's beta it seems to work rather well - I do not know if this will eventually be a for-purchase module or a free add on.

The blog module - for news, announcements etc - is in RC status (http://dnnblog.codeplex.com/releases/...), but I found it only partially usable (personal opinion). I've been testing the Packflash module and while it too has some shotcommings it seems to do the trick.

The one thing I have not been able to find yet is a gallery module that ties into the social features, including private, per-user galleries that are visible and configurable through the user's profile (again, I'm looking for "Facebookish" type functionality here).

If someone would have a suggestion for a gallery module that would be much appreciated.

Thx&Rgds,
Marcus.
