I guess this has been discussed ealier but I remember the positive experience that the old asp.net forum was in light, optimistic colours while this new dotnetnuke forum is kind of gothic, dark and scary. It doesn't help very much that this forum is much more narrow than the old forum dominated by some nazi-like blood-red and black letters.
I might be to easily scared, but I vote for a change in the background and the font colours to something brighter so I can come back to this forum more often.

On the top of this website you can change the layout of this site with the buttons next to the search box, just choose "maximum width layout"

I personally fail to interpret this design as "dark", altough it is high contrast with the red-silver, maybe a calibration of your monitor is needed

This skin is not the worst :)

Generally, the Default skins that come with the DNN modules should harmonize with the site and use the skins tags, containers etc. In my opinion, the worst example is the Gallery module where the DotNetNuke theme is far from pretty. Sometimes it looks like the designers are doing the rock the roll the rambo. At least, let the admin-interface be clean :)
