I was wondering if there was a roadmap listed anywhere for DNN. My biggest question is how much longer will ver 3.x be supported now that ver 4.x is out. I ask from a stand point of someone who has been in .Net since it was released and some of the changes are pretty significant on .net 2.0. We are just starting out in DNN and I am more comfortable in 3.x.

I just dont want to get going and 3.x gets dropped in 6 months.

Thanks,

Jerel

there is a roadmap at this site, but it contains a list of planned features only w/o time frame.

AFAIK there will be point releases for DNN 3, but main developement of the core and modules will be moving to ASP.Net 2 soon. I suggest for starting with DNN to go with DNN4.

Hi Jerel,

I can't speak for the core or other module developers, but I plan on only developing for 4.x in the next 2 months and only releasing 3.x versions if bugs arise. It's too time/costly consuming maintaining two lines of code. According to the survey on the Smart-Thinker home page, almost 2/3 of the community use 4.x (160 for DNN 4.x vs 68 for DNN 3.x).

Thanks

Thanks guys. I have written my first module in 3.0, just a simple hello world deal trying to figure things out.

Is there much difference from a development side between 3.x and 4.x? I know for asp.net in 2.0 they have gone away from compiled dll's and back to more of a classic asp feel. Does DNN still compile the dll's or is it more like the the new .net way? I grew so accustomed to the compiled code, I want to make sure when I move, I know what to look for so I can only stumble instead of fall.
