I have to say, I've been working with DNN since the 4.x versions and the new 7.x is a mess.  It's slower and the whole admin edit has gone South, IMHO.  I don't like the focus on the windows /modules.  It seems like a Microsoft thing to move things around, change for the sake of change and call it an upgrade.  I'd be nice (maybe there is a way and I don't know) to admin our 7.0 sites using the 6.0 admin interface / methods.  I feel like you've done the Windows 7 to 8 thing to this wonderful CMS.

Just had to get that off my chest.

Sorry you're not a fan of the new interface, but it wasn't an idle decision - we had a number of UI/UX people review our approach, compare and contrast it with other popular CMS's and examine various ergonomics recommendations. It's also an area in progress, and will continue to be improved and refined (e.g. in 7.3.0 the modules selection will now support search, keyboard controls and bookmarking) - of course you can still install alternative control panels such as http://www.oliverhine.com/DotNetNuke/... if you'd prefer them.

Regarding performance it's definitely something we can improve. We did some work in 7.2.1 and 7.2.2 on database optimisation but we're doing a lot of work in 7.3.0 to improve performance in a lot of areas, including page size, viewstate, caching, database and application logic -you can view this work at the 7.3.0 issue list https://dnntracker.atlassian.net/issu...

Adding to what Cathal said in his post, we are doing lots of work to improve performance and you can check out DNN Platform improvements by downloading the daily builds from GitHub. Just note that this is a work in progress through the balance of the v7.3.0 release.

As for changes since v6.0, everything has a price. While I read you loud and clear that you're unhappy with the UI/UX changes, many people prefer the changes made since v7.0. These were not done for the sake of change, but to make for more engaging, responsive interaction based on the latest UI/UX studies. At the same time, we've continued to improve DNN security. Unfortunately, some of this work was done at the expense of performance. So, in v7.3.0 we're working hard to improve performance, and in fact have also been leveraging more community submissions/comments to help since having switched source repositories to Git/GitHub.

Even though I may disagree with your perspective on v7.x, I am still grateful for your comments. We can always do better. If you have specific suggestions for improvements based on the latest codebase, we'd love to hear from you.
