I was reading DNN News today and I was surprised to learn that Charles Nurse has left dnnsoftware. I was more surprised because I didn't know about this and it seems Charles announced it on his blog on Nov 3rd even thought I follow the forums, the corp's blog, news and DNN Twitter feeds.  From the blog post, this sentence caught my eye "It was a difficult day, as this wasn’t my choice". I will leave you to speculate on this. There's seems to be an unusual silence about this news.  Charles was the chief architect, worked on DNN for 11 years and his name is all over DNN's code. I don't understand why this appears to be a non event.  Charles went to work for Arrow Consulting, the same company where Shaun Walker went to. I find what's happening strange. Then I found out that Cathal Connolly also left dnnsoftware and was also hired at Arrow. (Now that I do notice I haven't seen him in the forums lately). (My source)

In my opinion, these departures are not a good sign. I consider these departures a big setback which created a big void for dnnsoftware.  I mean if the top engineers are leaving, what does this say about the company or DNN's future? Does anyone have any concerns  or am I over blowing these observations?

Far from panicking but a few years back someone said that the take-over of DotNetNuke was the beginning of the end of it as we knew it.

Think I'm gonna switch over to Wordpress or something.

DNN has been improving a lot. There are many free and commercial modules and themes.  For me I just don't want to touch WebForms anymore so that's why I got interested in MVC support but so far I see the support still lacking. I started working on an MVC app to be converted to an MVC module but from I have seen so far from DNN MVC support and the pace of its progress, I decided to put this effort on hold until I get a feel of DNN 8 behaves and until the future of vNext is clearer. I might even wait until vNext is out.

Tony,

There are many people who join DNN Corp and who later leave.  The platform is not and should not be dependent on just a few individuals.  Like any Open Source project and any company that has been around awhile - people come and go.  There have been many great contributors to DNN over the years, some who are still around, and some who are not.  While Charles and Cathal had many strengths, they are far from being the only capable engineers working at DNN Corp.  Yes, they had been tasked with working on many aspects of the platform, but they are far from being the only ones capable of handling the job.  You only have to look at what our remaining engineers have accomplished with the Evoq product to know that they are quite talented and quite capable of continuing to grow and evolve the DNN Platform.

Joe

I am aware of what you're saying. It's part of life. When two visible (one in forums and one in blogs) engineers join a particular known company on the same day, I find it a bit unusual. Maybe you don't. I wasn't undermining the other engineers. I also do not know who they are because I don't see them writing.
