Hello,

Are there any accurate statistics out there that depict what percentage of the community is using X version?

In an ideal world, everyone would always be on the latest version but as we know, this is not possible.

Any information that can be provided would be great.

Thanks,

Mike Smeltzer

Mike,

as I am not aware of any mechanism that "phones home" giving such data - I fear that there is no such statistics, at least not an accurate one.

I can only tell you about the ones I use or look after: There is a very low number of 4.x and 5.x (~ 5%), some 6.x (~ 30%), a lot of 7.x (~60%) and a low number of 8.x (~5%). Reasons not to upgrade: mostly incompatibilities, sometimes ignorance (and I mean that by: I often told them they should upgrade, but they simply ignore all the reasons to do so).

Happy DNNing!

I think there is, and DNN Corp has detailed information about this. See this setting in the web.config: <add key="UpdateServiceUrl" value="http://update.dotnetnuke.com" />.

When enabled in Host > Settings (which is true in 99% of the sites, I guess), they are getting detailed usage and version(s) information.

The thing is, they don't share it...  :(

Horacio,

you are right. I never inspected what this thing is really doing, but the request link looks like

//update.dotnetnuke.com/update.aspx?core=080002&version=080002&type=Framework&name=DNNCORP.CE&id=ED0B2D05-9215-435A-9FC7-930639AF8433&no=1&os=0603&net=0406&db=1200

That gives also information about the OS, .Net Framework and SQL Server version... so there should be accurate statistics.

Happy DNNing!

From DNN 8, there is additional "feedback service", which - if not turned off - provides DNN Corp. with additional info about usage of DNN and extensions.
