Is there a way to paste images or screenshots directly into the editor on a DNN page?  People mention using Livewriter, but that is long been discontinued.   I'm really not looking for a work-around that requires another tool like that.

It does seem that this editor (used in the forums) allows me to do it:

Can I just switch out my editor in the DNN install?  If so, which one should I use and how do I change it?

So I was able to determine the default DNNConnect.CKE just doesn't seem to allow this, but you can download another CKEditor, which seems to be an upgraded version?  Who knows.  Documentation for DNN is pretty lacking and a lot of stuff on the web is just old.

Go to - https://github.com/w8tcha/dnnckeditor

From releases, get the latest and unzip it.  You can find the version you need and install it in your DNN instance.  I went to Settings -> Extensions and chose Providers from the dropdown.  I then installed the DNN 9 CKE package.  It automatically added the necessary values to the web.config, as well as changed the default to this new on.  I am now able to paste screenshots from the SnagIt snipping tool.

It would be nice to try the other HTML editors.  What happened to the Telerik RADEditor?  Are there other options?

Jarrod,

the CK Editor provider by Ingo Herbote (w8tcha) is a good option - I am not sure if it supports this feature, but it's worth giving it a try. Actually the DNNConnect.CKE was originally taken from this product as a replacement for the Telerik Editor.

The Telerik Editor has been added to DNN 5 I think, there was a cooperation between DNN and Telerik at this time. As the cooperation ended somewhen with the start of DNN 7 (afair) the Telerik provider got outdated and removed.

The other options you have:

  • fork the DNNConnect.CKEditor from GitHub (https://github.com/DNN-Connect/CKEditorProvider), add the functionality needed and make a pull request - this will propably bring you great community recognition :-)
  • You can use any editor as long as you find a DNN HTML Editor provider package for it - or write one on your own.

Happy DNNing
Michael
